Our University’s TÜBİTAK 1005 Project Awarded Funding
Our University has achieved another important success that strengthens its research and project development capacity. A project led by Prof. Dr. Ahmet Çakır, faculty member of the Department of Chemistry at the Faculty of Science, has been awarded funding under the TÜBİTAK 1005 – National New Ideas and Products Research Support Programme. The project is the first project from our University to receive support under the TÜBİTAK 1005 Programme.
Titled “Column-Based Purification of Shikimic Acid from Pistachio (Pistacia vera L.) Fruit Hulls and Process Optimisation Using Taguchi Experimental Design,” the project will be carried out with a budget of TRY 1.2 million. Prof. Dr. Metin Açıkyıldız and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Evrim Baran Aydın, members of our Project Support Office, will also take part in the project as researchers.
The study aims to obtain shikimic acid, an important raw material for the pharmaceutical industry, from pistachio fruit hulls, a regional agricultural waste product, and to demonstrate its potential for conversion into value-added biochemical products.
The project is expected to contribute to strengthening our University’s capacity to develop high-quality R&D projects at the national level, while also generating important outcomes in terms of transforming regional resources into added value through scientific research.
