He was born on March 10, 1971, in Şanlıurfa. He completed his primary education in Şanlıurfa, and his secondary and high school education at Gaziantep Nizip Imam Hatip High School. He graduated from Marmara University Faculty of Theology in 1994. From 1995 to 2001, he worked as a teacher in various schools under the Ministry of National Education. In 1998, he completed his master's degree in Islamic History at Harran University Social Sciences Institute with his thesis titled "The Life of Abu Hanifa al-Dinaveri and the History of Canvas".

 

He completed his military service in Erzurum in 2000. In 2001, he was appointed as a research assistant at İnönü University. In the same year, he was sent to Ankara University on a temporary assignment by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) to pursue a doctorate.

 

Between 2002 and 2006, while working as a research assistant at Ankara University's Institute of Social Sciences, he conducted research at the Prime Ministry Ottoman Archives for his doctoral thesis on the History of Ottoman Institutions. His thesis, written in 2006, was published in 2009 by the Presidency of Religious Affairs under the title "A Supreme Council in the Late Ottoman Period: Dârü'l Hikmeti'l-İslâmiye".

 

Following his university roles, he served as an expert, manager, and ministerial advisor in various ministries. During his teaching and university career, he participated in numerous scientific and social activities. He has published many books and articles on Islamic History and Ottoman History.

 

Zekeriya Akman received the title of Associate Professor in 2013 and Professor in 2019. While working at the Department of Islamic History and Arts, Faculty of Islamic Sciences, Kırıkkale University, he was appointed as the Rector of Kilis 7 Aralık University by the Presidential Appointment Decree published in the Official Gazette on April 10, 2025, with the approval of our President, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
