Rector Akman Attends the Commemoration Program Marking the 510th Anniversary of the Battle of Marj Dabiq
Rector Prof. Dr. Zekeriya Akman attended the commemoration program organized on the occasion of the 510th anniversary of the Battle of Marj Dabiq and the 10th anniversary of Operation Euphrates Shield.
The program continued with a ceremonial parade, wreath-laying ceremony, a moment of silence, the recitation of the Turkish National Anthem, a ceremonial salute in memory of the martyrs, and protocol speeches. The event also featured performances by the mehter band, folk dance groups, traditional archery demonstrations, and an armed demonstration by the Gendarmerie.
Speaking at the program, Rector Akman stated that the Battle of Marj Dabiq represents one of the significant turning points in Turkish history and holds an important place in the historical memory of Kilis. He emphasized that the values embodied by this great victory, including courage, determination, unity, and patriotism, continue to guide the nation today.
Rector Akman also noted that the commemoration coinciding with Mawlid al-Nabi added a special spiritual significance to the occasion and stated that commemorating the anniversary of such a historic victory on this meaningful day gave the program an even deeper meaning.
Referring also to the 10th anniversary of Operation Euphrates Shield, Rector Akman highlighted the importance of the sacrifices made by the Turkish Armed Forces in safeguarding the country’s borders and ensuring the peace and security of the nation. Remembering the martyrs with mercy and the veterans with gratitude, Rector Akman expressed his hope that the 510th anniversary of the Battle of Marj Dabiq would bring peace and prosperity to Kilis and Türkiye.
The commemoration program concluded with a recitation from the Holy Qur’an and prayers.
