Rector Akman Attends the 2nd International Iron and Steel Symposium
Rector Prof. Dr. Zekeriya Akman attended the 2nd International Iron and Steel Symposium (IISS2026), hosted by İskenderun Technical University, as well as the ceremony at which Fuat Tosyalı, Chairman of the Board of Tosyalı Holding, was awarded an honorary doctorate.
Held at the Orange Hall on the Central Campus of İskenderun Technical University, the program addressed the future of the iron and steel industry, sustainable production, innovative technologies, and current developments in the sector. Bringing together representatives from academia and industry, the symposium also focused on strengthening university-industry cooperation and exploring opportunities for joint initiatives aimed at shaping the future of the sector.
As part of the program, Fuat Tosyalı, Chairman of the Board of Tosyalı Holding, was awarded an honorary doctorate in economics by İskenderun Technical University in recognition of his contributions to industry and the national economy.
Rector Akman stated that cooperation between universities and industrial organizations plays an important role in transforming scientific knowledge into production and societal benefit. Emphasizing the strategic importance of the iron and steel industry for Türkiye’s production capacity and economic development, he noted that bringing scientific research together with the sector’s experience can make significant contributions to innovative and sustainable production processes.
