“Turkish Traces in the Middle East II: Handicrafts” Event Held at Our University
Our University hosted an event titled “Turkish Traces in the Middle East II: Handicrafts – Past, Present and Future,” organised by the Middle East Studies Application and Research Centre (KODAM) and the Middle East Studies Student Society.
The event focused on the historical development, present condition, and future of Turkish handicrafts. Prof. Dr. Ali Fuat Baysal of Necmettin Erbakan University, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Betül Coşkun Çelik of Bitlis Eren University, Assist. Prof. Dr. Selahattin Aslan of Muş Alparslan University, and Assist. Prof. Dr. Hacer Yılıkoğlu of Gaziantep University participated as speakers. During the session, the place of Turkish handicrafts within cultural heritage and their historical traces across the Middle East were discussed from various perspectives.
The event, also attended by Hülya Akman, wife of Rector Prof. Dr. Zekeriya Akman, continued with the speakers’ evaluations on the cultural accumulation carried by handicrafts from past to present and the ways in which this heritage can be transmitted to future generations. The programme concluded with participants sharing their views and questions on the subject.
