Rector Akman Attended the Documentary Screening and Talk on “The Migration of Coffee from the Middle East”
Our Rector, Prof. Dr. Zekeriya Akman, attended the documentary screening and talk titled “The Migration of Coffee from the Middle East,” organized by the Middle East Studies Application and Research Center (KODAM) and the Middle East Studies Student Community of Kilis 7 Aralık University, in collaboration with the Women and Family Studies Application and Research Center (KADAMER).
Held at the KADAMER Mansion, the program featured the screening of the documentary directed by Emre Burhan, with Dr. Hilal Sevlü serving as assistant director. Following the screening, a discussion session was held in which information was shared about the development of the project and the ethnographic field research conducted in Gaziantep.
During the discussion, participants addressed the social interactions and integration practices that have developed around coffee culture between Syrian migrants and the local population. The contribution of cultural exchange to social cohesion and community engagement was also evaluated.
In his remarks at the end of the program, Rector Prof. Dr. Zekeriya Akman emphasized the importance of universities taking a leading role not only in scientific research but also in activities addressing social and cultural issues. He stated that such initiatives, which strengthen understanding and interaction among different cultures, are valuable both academically and socially.
