Rector Akman Attends the “Science Diplomacy on the Road to COP31: Academia Launch” Programme

Rector Prof. Dr. Zekeriya Akman attended the “Science Diplomacy on the Road to COP31: Academia Launch” programme organised by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK).

Held at the Council of Higher Education, the programme addressed the roles that universities can play in combating climate change, advancing sustainable development, and strengthening science diplomacy. The higher education vision for the COP31 process and the academic contributions expected from universities were also discussed.

Within the scope of the programme, participants exchanged views on strengthening scientific research through international cooperation, increasing sustainability-oriented collaboration among universities, and the responsibilities of academia in addressing climate change.

Commenting on the programme, Rector Akman stated that climate change and sustainability are among the most important global issues of our time, emphasising that universities are key institutions that help shape this process through the production of scientific knowledge.

Rector Akman also noted that our University remains committed to its work in the fields of environment, sustainability, and social responsibility. He added that cooperation developed at national and international levels would make important contributions both to academic output and to Türkiye’s sustainable development goals.
